The Thompson/Center Encore is a single-shot break-action rifle, and this used example, serial 149857, is chambered in .30-06 with a 24-inch round barrel. It carries a ramped front sight with a white bead and a folding semi-buckhorn rear, and the barrel is threaded for a scope mount. The metal is blued and the furniture is walnut; the supplier notes a few small dings and handling marks on the wood, very good bluing and an excellent bore.

For Utah hunters the .30-06 covers the general-season buck deer any-legal-weapon hunt on October 17 to 25 and the general bull elk any-weapon hunts of October 3 to 9 and October 10 to 16, assuming your permit came through the spring draw. A single-shot break action is light to carry up a ridge and makes you take one careful shot, and the open sights work as they are or you can mount a scope on the threaded base. Check the Big Game Field Regulations Guidebook for your unit's boundaries and legal ammunition.
