Savage's A22 Target Sporter is a semi-automatic .22 LR with a 22-inch button-rifled barrel in a 1:16 twist, a straight-blowback action and the company's thread-in headspace system. The aluminum receiver keeps weight to 5.63 pounds over 41.5 inches, the black synthetic stock is built for hard use, and the receiver is drilled and tapped for a scope. The AccuTrigger adjusts, the magazine is a 10-round detachable rotary, and a manual safety is fitted.

A rimfire with a trigger you can tune and a receiver ready for glass is the kind of rifle Utah shooters use for small game, target practice and teaching the next shooter, and the semi-automatic action keeps the pace up at the range. It is a rifle under federal law, so the dealer minimum age is 18 rather than 21.
