This is an antique T.J. Stafford derringer, serial number 1083, offered as a used collector's piece. The supplier calls it a very good example: the barrel keeps about 60 percent of its original blue, the frame has taken on a pleasing patina, the grips are excellent, and every marking is clean and easy to read. No caliber or barrel length is listed, so ask before you buy if those details matter to you.
A derringer of this type is bought to be looked at and handled, not carried, and the surviving blue and sharp stampings are what set this example apart from worn ones. Because it is listed with our handguns, it goes through the same Utah purchase steps as a modern pistol: photo identification, Form 4473 and the Bureau of Criminal Identification check at the dealer, with the federal minimum age of 21 for handguns. Utah keeps no registry and imposes no waiting period.
