Between the Wasatch Front and the small towns down through Nephi, Manti and Richfield, Utah buys a lot of 9mm pistols for the simple reason that one gun covers the house, the hip and the range. CZ's new DUTY 4.0 is built to be that gun. It is a new-generation striker-fired 9x19 on a serialized internal chassis; the fiberglass-reinforced polymer grip frame is modular. The slide mounts red dots directly with fixed sights retained, and the barrel is 4 inches and not threaded.
Salt Lake City, Provo and Ogden shooters who carry will look at the DUTY 4.0 C: 15+1 standard or 17+1 with the extended base plate, 770 g, 135 mm tall. Logan and Brigham City home-defense buyers often prefer the full-size DUTY 4.0 F: 17+1 standard or 19+1 extended, 780 g, 143 mm tall. Both are offered with a manual thumb safety as MS models or without. CZ's refined SFDA trigger: 25±4 N (5.6±0.9 lbs), 9±1 mm travel, 4 mm reset. New release, $729 MSRP.
The C is the short-grip frame. It stands 5.3 in (135 mm) tall, weighs 27.2 oz (770 g) unloaded and carries 15+1 rounds of 9mm, or 17+1 once the extended floor plate is fitted. Short enough to hide under a shirt, long enough to get every finger on the grip.
There is no external safety on this model. Drop safety comes from the firing pin block, the trigger safety and the trigger-bar safety, the way most modern striker pistols are set up. If you want a thumb safety lever, the MS version has one.
The chassis is serialized and modular, which is CZ's way of making the grip frame swappable. The frame itself is fiberglass-reinforced polymer, 1.3 in (33 mm) wide, on a 102 mm barrel and a 7.4 in (188 mm) overall length. The SFDA trigger breaks at 25 ± 4 N (5.6 ± 0.9 lbs) and resets in 0.16 in (4 mm). Optics mount directly to the slide; the photos from CZ show Holosun, Aimpoint and Shield footprints.
Who is it for: daily carry, a home-defense gun that also rides along, and new shooters who want one pistol for everything. If you already shoot a P-10, the DUTY is the next step in the same family, with a new chassis and the optics done right.
Utah has no permit to purchase and no waiting period. Name the Utah dealer you want at checkout and the DUTY 4.0 ships to that FFL. Your dealer runs the state background check at pickup and releases the pistol. Ammunition and gear go straight to your door. The order runs a live stock and price confirmation first, so you pay on current numbers.
Questions buyers ask: Is there a waiting period for handguns in Utah? No. Utah has no permit to purchase and no waiting period; your dealer runs the state background check when you pick up. What is the serialized part on the DUTY 4.0? The internal chassis carries the serial number. The fiberglass-reinforced polymer grip frame is a modular part around it. Does the CZ DUTY 4.0 C take CZ P-10 magazines? CZ lists the DUTY with its own 15-round magazine and an extended floor plate for 17+1. P-10 magazine fit is not confirmed, so plan on DUTY magazines.
